Sagaria cilentana gen. et sp. nov.-A New Angiosperm Fructification from the Middle Albian of Southern Italy

چکیده
A single specimen of a new fossil angiosperm, Sagaria cilentana gen. et sp. nov., has been recovered from limestones of the ‘‘plattenkalk’’ of the Middle Albian at Monti Alburni, near Petina, Campania, Italy. Associated fossils include Pagiophyllum sp., Podozamites sp. and Zamites sp. The angiosperm has a main axis approximately 8 cm long with three attached leaves and a distal cyme bearing three fructifications. The fructifications display divided distal tips indicating three four lobes. Four cm from the base, underneath the main axis, there is a lobed structure, presumably a leaf. An unattached leaf near the specimen is in a position that suggests that it comes from the same plant. The leaf has an elongate petiole, obtuse base and on the right side of the lamina are three lobes. Affinities are uncertain but show similarities in overall morphology to basal eudicots, especially Ranunculaceae. 2010 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

New Mid-Cretaceous (Latest Albian) Dinosaurs from Winton, Queensland, Australia
BACKGROUND Australia's dinosaurian fossil record is exceptionally poor compared to that of other similar-sized continents. Most taxa are known from fragmentary isolated remains with uncertain taxonomic and phylogenetic placement. A better understanding of the Australian dinosaurian record is crucial to understanding the global palaeobiogeography of dinosaurian groups, including groups previousl...
متن کاملNew semionotiform (Neopterygii) from the Tlayúa Quarry (Early Cretaceous, Albian), Mexico
We describe a new semionotiform fish, Tlayuamichin itztli gen. et sp. nov. from the Early Cretaceous (Albian) of Mexico, which constitutes one of the youngest semionotid articulated remains. The new taxon is represented by five well-preserved specimens from the Tlayúa Quarry near Tepexi de Rodríguez in Puebla State, central Mexico. A series of paraethmoid bones anterior to the supraorbital seri...

متن کاملA Remarkable New Family of Jurassic Insects (Neuroptera) with Primitive Wing Venation and Its Phylogenetic Position in Neuropterida
BACKGROUND Lacewings (insect order Neuroptera), known in the fossil record since the Early Permian, were most diverse in the Mesozoic. A dramatic variety of forms ranged in that time from large butterfly-like Kalligrammatidae to minute two-winged Dipteromantispidae. PRINCIPAL FINDINGS We describe the intriguing new neuropteran family Parakseneuridae fam. nov. with three new genera and 15 new ...
